  • Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +17 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 36 (4d12 + 10) piercing damage.

  • Tail Slap: Melee Weapon Attack: +17 to hit, reach 30 ft., one target. Hit: 28 (3d12 + 10) bludgeoning damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 25 Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 20 feet away from the Leviathan and knocked prone.

  • Storm Call (Recharge 5-6): The Leviathan calls upon the fury of the storm, causing a tempest to form in a 120-foot radius centered on it. The area is difficult terrain for creatures other than the Leviathan. Each creature in that area must make a DC 25 Dexterity saving throw, taking 56 (16d6) lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

  • Maelstrom (Triggered at 20% or less of Max HP): When the Leviathan reaches 20% or less of its maximum hit points, it plunges deep into the ocean, causing a massive whirlpool to form within a 1000-foot radius around it. All sea vessels and creatures on or in the water must make a DC 25 Strength saving throw or be dragged 100 feet toward the center of the maelstrom and pulled under the water.

Legendary Actions:

The Leviathan can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The Leviathan regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

  • Detect: The Leviathan makes a Wisdom (Perception) check.

  • Roar (Costs 2 Actions): The Leviathan lets out a thunderous roar. Each creature within 120 feet of the Leviathan and able to hear the roar must succeed on a DC 25 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the end of their next turn.

  • Storm Surge (Costs 3 Actions): The Leviathan summons a giant wave in a 60-foot line that is 10 feet wide. Each creature in that line must make a DC 25 Strength saving throw. On a failure, a creature takes 44 (8d10) bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone. On a success, a creature takes half as much damage and isn’t knocked prone.

The Leviathan's claw attacks add a new dimension to its assault, allowing it to engage with multiple threats simultaneously. The addition of the Maelstrom mechanic makes the final stages of the battle incredibly dangerous and chaotic, reflecting the desperate struggle of a cornered beast.

The Lore of the Leviathan of the Tempest

Deep within the fathomless reaches of the ocean exists a creature of such immense power and size that it dwarfs even the largest sea vessels. The Leviathan of the Tempest is a two-headed monstrosity that commands the very elements, causing violent storms and monstrous waves. It is a creature as old as the world itself, a timeless embodiment of the sea's fury.

  • Truth: The Leviathan is a primal entity, spawned from the tumultuous birth of the world. It is not motivated by the same desires as mortals but is instead an elemental force of nature. It exists simply to exist, its actions guided by the natural world and the cosmic balance.

  • Myth: The Leviathan is a wrathful god, angered by the encroachment of mortals upon the sea. Its storms are punishments for the hubris of those who dare to venture into its domain.

  • Truth: While not a deity, the Leviathan is indeed protective of the ocean's integrity. It does not care for the affairs of mortals, but excessive harm to the ocean can draw its attention. As a result, communities along the coast often offer tributes to the Leviathan, dumping treasures into the sea in hopes of appeasing the titan and warding off its wrath.

  • Myth: The Leviathan can be appeased by throwing a virgin into the sea, as the beast is fond of pure souls.

  • Truth: The Leviathan has no preference for souls, virgin or otherwise. Its intelligence is primal, and it lacks the nuanced understanding of morality that this myth suggests. Sacrifices, human or otherwise, do not appease it.

  • Myth: There is a magical horn, known as the Tempest Horn, that can control the Leviathan when played. The melody of the horn can soothe the beast, causing it to sleep and thus calm the stormy seas.

  • Truth: The so-called Tempest Horn is a fable, a story concocted by desperate sailors. No such artifact is known to exist. Attempting to control such an elemental force is folly.

  • Myth: The Leviathan is actually a pair of sea titans, forever entwined in a passionate dance beneath the waves. Their movements cause the ocean to roil and the weather to change.

  • Truth: The Leviathan is a single entity with two heads, not two separate creatures. Its movements can indeed cause massive disturbances in the sea and weather, but this is more a result of its size and power than any romantic entanglement.

  • Truth: The Leviathan, in its primal wisdom, understands the balance of nature. In rare instances, it has been known to aid in rebalancing the world. Stories tell of times when the Leviathan calmed its storm, quelling its fury to allow a flotilla of ships passage as they fled a greater threat.

In the end, the Leviathan of the Tempest is a force as awe-inspiring and unpredictable as the sea itself. It exists as a reminder of nature's raw, unbridled power, and those who respect this power may find a modicum of safety in the tempest's fury.
